I’ve always felt that the most honest parts of who we are are revealed not in what we say… but in what we choose to do.
Over 8 weeks, I explored this idea through Career Quest, an AI-powered interactive experience that reimagines career discovery as something more human, playful, and deeply personal. Unlike traditional personality quizzes that ask users to define themselves through answers, Career Quest uncovers personality through action, observing how players make decisions, respond to challenges, and reflect on their journey within an RPG-inspired world. Built with p5.js and powered by an LLM, the project transforms behaviour into insight, creating a personalized reflection of who someone is through the choices they make.
At its heart, Career Quest asks a simple question: what if self-discovery came not from what we claim about ourselves, but from what our actions reveal?
How I Came Up With The Idea
I’ve always felt traditional personality quizzes forces people into overly direct questions such as asking who you are, instead of discovering how you think, act, and respond naturally. I wanted to design something more human: an experience where personality is revealed through play, decision-making, and reflection rather than simply selecting answers.
Integrating AI Into The Experience
Rather than using AI as a tool that simply generates a final result, I designed it as an active layer within the experience, collecting narrative choices and personal reflection into a single “Journey Log”. This transforms raw player data into meaningful insight, allowing AI to interpret personality more contextually, emotionally, and personally.
Making Self-Discovery Feel Playful
I didn’t want self-discovery to feel clinical or serious, so I designed Career Quest as an RPG-inspired experience that feels playful. By turning reflection into a journey through story, challenge, and reward the experience invites users to discover themselves naturally, rather than feeling like they are taking a test.
Sequence + AI Logic
Career Quest is built as a layered behavioural system: users make decisions, engage in a live mini-game, and reflect on their journey all of which are stored as a structured “Journey Log.” This log becomes the context for the LLM, allowing AI to generate custom reflection prompts, synthesize behavioural patterns, and return a personalized career identity that feels honest rather than assigned.
